Adopt Shy

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Hello, I am the shy lady Shy and was born in the Westerwald in 2018. I got my name from my original owners because I was very shy. In the Westerwald, in a very hot summer in 2020, the feed became scarce, and as a result, two sheep had to go. My owners put my companion Holly and me up for sale in classified ads. We both had the great fortune that at that time, there was space in the Hunsrück sheep herd at Schutzengel für Tiere. Petra Wintersohl was looking in classified ads for possibly slaughter-threatened sheep between Sauerland and Simmern and came across our ad. We sheep are very frugal, friendly herd animals. We can also be transported together in one trailer by several animals even though we don't know each other yet. The Schutzengel trailer had a partition to separate, but it was already occupied by the dwarf goat mom Carla with her babies Candy and Carlotta, who were saved from slaughter in Lower Saxony. On the way, Holly and I were the first to join. And in Dillenburg, Petra also picked up Heidschnucke mom Masha with her already large children Monja and Mucia. We got along well during the ride and could hardly believe our luck when we stepped out on the huge two-hectare meadow in Simmern. Our owner was also happy that we were allowed to continue living and donated the purchase price of a total of 200 € to Schutzengel für Tiere. That was a long time ago, and Holly and I still enjoy our life here in Simmern. The monthly boarding costs for a sheep now amount to 26.50 € in the summer and even 28 € in the winter. A sponsorship is possible from 15 € per month. Would you like to be my sponsor? Now fill out the sponsorship declaration.

About Shy

What life with Shy looks like

Shy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Shy far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
