Adopt Silling

Female · Senior · 10 years

Silling is a roughly 10-year-old, neutered Pekinesemix female dog who came from a large rescue operation. She previously lived with around 80 other dogs on a property where the animals reproduced uncontrollably and had little contact with humans. Accordingly, she was insecure and poorly socialized when she arrived at our partner shelter with several other dogs. The dogs were in generally poor condition: unkempt, overly long claws, no experience with leashes or close human contact, and great fear of being touched. Additionally, Silling was pregnant and suffered from a severe flea allergy and heartworms. Despite everything, she has developed remarkably over the past few months. Currently, Silling lives at one of our foster homes in Germany—and let’s say, she has embraced her new life in record time. The little female dog enjoys the peace, the garden, her soft dog bed, and all the things that were once unimaginable for her. From the once so shy female dog, a gentle, affectionate, and clingy companion has emerged, who builds trust step by step and shows her human more and more of her big heart. Silling and her foster grandmother are now a well-oiled team: She shows great familiarity with her human and allows herself to be handled and touched without a problem. However, she is cautious with strangers—when unfamiliar people come into the house, she growls and retreats. She, however, takes visits with strangers outside the home much better, especially with women. Even car rides do not bother the little lady. Silling is in this sense an uncomplicated little female dog with a shoulder height of around 28 cm and a weight under 10 kg. She is compatible with everyone, loves the proximity of her humans, and is simply a treasure on four legs. She now walks well on a leash and is already house-trained. For Silling, we now wish for a loving senior residence—a quiet home, preferably with a garden, where she can finally settle in. People with patience, empathy, and lots of love will find a loyal companion in her. Ideally, the new home should not be in a highly frequented area, as Silling needs time to trust new people. After a life of deprivation, Silling should now be able to experience being cared for, pampered, and unconditionally loved. 🟢Interest?

🟢Interesse? Bitte fülle unsere Selbstauskunft aus

About Silling

What life with Silling looks like

Silling is a large senior dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Silling, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Silling?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Silling on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Silling if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Silling already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Silling isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Silling and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
