adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this dog now! Silvan is one of those dogs who has been overlooked for far too long. He is now around 5 years old and carries a past with him that could hardly be heavier. His previous owner treated him extremely poorly: Silvan spent years chained up, isolated, without shelter, without affection, and without any opportunity to learn trust or experience safety. That time has left deep scars. The medium-sized male dog, standing about 55 cm at the shoulder and sporting short, tricolor fur, appears calm and attentive—yet his eyes reveal how much he has endured. The fact that Silvan, despite all the neglect and abuse he suffered, is now even capable of allowing closeness demonstrates his tremendous inner strength. He currently lives in a foster home in Baia Mare. Silvan initially meets unfamiliar people with skepticism—a reaction more than understandable given his history. However, he does not react impulsively; instead, he needs time to assess situations and is able to calm down again. With people he knows and trusts, an entirely different dog emerges: friendly, clingy, cuddly, and very sweet in his interactions. Once he has built trust, he actively seeks closeness and clearly enjoys the affection of his trusted people. Silvan gets along well with other dogs and is sociable. By now, he shows no issues whatsoever with any dogs, which can provide him additional security in his new home. Since Silvan has never experienced a normal dog’s life, living indoors is still unfamiliar to him. Everyday things like walking nicely on a leash, house-training, or consistent routines must be learned step by step. For this, he needs experienced, patient, and calm individuals who can offer guidance without overwhelming him. A quiet, preferably rural environment would be ideal, as too many stimuli quickly unsettle him. Positive-reinforcement dog training classes can later help him gain further confidence and deepen his bond with his people. We are looking for a stable, reliable home for Silvan with empathetic people who take his past seriously but never hold it against him—people who can read him, give him time, and show him that life can also be kind, predictable, and full of affection. Given these conditions, Silvan will continue to open up and grow into a loyal, sensitive companion. Silvan will travel neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and with an EU pet passport.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Silvan

What life with Silvan looks like

Silvan is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Silvan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Silvan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Silvan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Silvan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Silvan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Silvan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Silvan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
