Adopt Sīmanis

Male · Adult · 9 years

In early November of last year, 22 cats were confiscated by PVD in an apartment in Riga. The animals lived in unsanitary conditions, reproduced uncontrollably, and most were sick. Only now have we finally gathered all the cats: treated or at least stabilized their health, all the cats are alive, and now we can start looking for new homes for some of them. Unfortunately, for now, the striped white fluffy ones are not yet available for adoption. Sīmanis could be approximately 8–9 years old. We don't know if he was once a street cat, or if living in a group of cats in a filthy apartment led to a lack of socialization. In any case, his first reaction when seeing a person is to hide. Now, as we've been slowly and calmly communicating with him for months, Sīmanis allows himself to be cuddled and is interested in watching people. However, the main reason he still has to stay with us is his health. The shelter veterinarians want to perform an abdominal ultrasound to rule out the possibility of a tumor. This cannot be done without anesthesia, so time is needed - Sīmanis recently had one surgery, during which he was neutered and his mouth cavity was cleaned. Repeating anesthesia without harming the health of a younger and healthier cat is advisable to do with a certain time gap. Therefore, we are waiting and socializing in the meantime, because we can now say: Sīmanis has accepted the new life in the shelter.

About Sīmanis

What life with Sīmanis looks like

Sīmanis is a adult cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sīmanis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sīmanis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sīmanis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sīmanis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sīmanis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sīmanis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sīmanis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
