Adopt Demija

Female · Young · 2 years

The gray kitten has been at the shelter since two weeks old, when she came to us with her mother and sisters, brothers. All the others are now in their own homes, only Demija remains and possibly will spend her whole life here as well... The kitten has a urinary incontinence - most likely a congenital anomaly, which currently cannot be prevented. When she was a month old, they did an ultrasound - "we don't see anything, let her grow", the doctor said, and when she was six months old - "still no abnormalities in the organs are visible". They had the kitten spayed - nothing changed. Demija properly goes to the litter box for all her business, unfortunately, the sneaky urine spots still sometimes occur... The only possibility for the kitten to live outside the shelter walls is in a countryside house, but not just as a mouse catcher in a dilapidated shed. Demija longs for human attention and if she is to have the chance to be near a owner, it should be ensured, but the majority of the day she could spend outside, including staying, for example, in a modern outbuilding, where a few urine spots per day would not be a problem, but in winter it would be warm and cozy. And the owners should be the type who will take care of the kitten, take her to the vet when needed, pamper and dote on her. Demija is communicative, affectionate and also self-sufficient, she won't let herself be mistreated and if she has a different opinion about something than a person, it should be respected, easily biting the hand or swatting with the paw. In short, a loving personality.

About Demija

What life with Demija looks like

Demija is a young adult cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

Frequently asked

Adopting Demija, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Demija?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Demija on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Demija if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Demija already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Demija isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Demija and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
