Simba

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 2 years

Simba - a young Malinois full of energy and love. Simba is a beautiful, young male Malinois who ended up in the shelter too early. The stressful daily life there strongly affected him emotionally, so he was temporarily placed with a foster family at the beginning of November. This time has impressively shown what potential he has - if he gets the chance to arrive in a stable environment. In the foster family, Simba showed himself to be very manageable at home. He is friendly, affectionate, and likes to be close to his humans. Typical for a young, active dog, he sometimes tries to find out what he can chew on and what not, but can be easily redirected and occupied with suitable toys. In calm moments, he can be very affectionate, but when there is not enough structure or guidance, he can occasionally become overly lively - something that can be well regulated with patient, consistent instruction. Simba simply needs clear, calm leadership and people who give him security. Simba lived peacefully with other dogs in the foster home, including two older dogs, towards whom he showed respect and calmness. Dog encounters on the leash are still difficult for him; he sometimes reacts fearfully and uncertainly. However, off the leash, he is playful, friendly and social. His recall is steadily improving, but like everything with a young dog, it still needs training, especially in situations with a lot of distraction. Simba already knows children. He shows himself to be friendly towards them, but his play can still be wild and spontaneous. Therefore, a home with older, stable children around 15 years old or without children would be better suited for him right now. Outdoors, Simba is attentive and energetic. When many stimuli affect him, his leash handling still needs practice. In stressful moments, he occasionally tries to follow bicycles or balls, but he is also showing progress here. Particularly positive is how well Simba travels in the car: even on somewhat longer trips, he remains calm and relaxed. Simba is an intelligent, sensitive and very loyal dog who hasn't had the opportunity to grow up in a stable environment so far. On his foster home, he quickly showed a strong orientation towards his humans and demonstrated a high willingness to learn. He loves fetch games, sticks, frisbees and balls - shared activities with his humans mean a lot to him. Unfortunately, his time with the foster family is limited, and Simba has to go back to the shelter soon. For him, this would be a big step back. Therefore, we urgently need an experienced, committed home or a foster family for Simba, which can continue to provide him with structure and attachment, so that he can build on his learning successes. With the right support, Simba will grow into an attentive, reliable and very close companion. He has everything it takes - he just needs people who are ready to walk this path with him.

About Simba

What life with Simba looks like

Simba is a large young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Simba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
