Simon

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 7 years

Simon originally comes from a Spanish animal shelter but was brought to Germany as a young dog to a home that unfortunately could not provide him with security and stability. Since his owner had major problems with him, he was given up to us. To be able to offer him the necessary peace and support, he spent the past months in the Allgäu Dog Hotel in Bodelsberg. There, an experienced team worked gently to rebuild his trust in people and enable him to have positive experiences in everyday life. Simon is initially somewhat cautious and reserved when meeting strangers, but once he has gained trust, he develops a close bond with his caregivers. He shows himself to be more confident when dealing with other dogs. He gets along well with some of his fellow canines, while others can lead to major conflicts. He is very smart and willing to work, which is typical of his breed. Accordingly, he must be mentally as well as physically exercised. For Simon, we are looking for dog-experienced people without other animals who will approach him with patience, understanding, and clear leadership. He needs a quiet, reliable routine as well as people who can read his body language, take his needs seriously, and provide him with the necessary security. Update from 17.09.2025: Simon is really doing well at the Allgäu Dog Hotel. He has a lot of contact with other dogs and is building a close bond with his caregivers. The trainers take a lot of time for him there and it is noticeable that he has really grown close to them. Currently, he is still practicing walking on a leash and wearing a muzzle, but he is already making great progress. DE·Show original

About Simon

What life with Simon looks like

Simon is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Memmingen in Memmingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Simon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Simon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Memmingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Simon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Simon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Memmingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Simon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Simon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Memmingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Simon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
