Sir Henry

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

In early April 2024, the animal welfare workers from Dolmen Animal received a distress call from a concerned lady. Several dogs, including some with injuries and puppies, had been left out in an empty house in her neighborhood. She could temporarily provide them with food and water, but she urgently needed help. The police secured the premises and the building, and several organizations took in some of the dogs. In the end, three small sugar cubes remained, which found a temporary home at Dolmen. Angie and her baby bees, Sir Henry, were not at all keen on the idea of being caught by strangers and transported into a car. The nimble little ones had to be subdued by a very engaged effort from the combined forces of animal rescuers and the police before they could make their short journey to the pension of our friends. Since Biene and Sir Henry were not older than 10 weeks at the time, they stayed with their mother in the quarantine station of the facility. The little family delighted all the animal welfare workers with their pronounced cuteness. As you can see, Angie has some terrier genes, clearly visible as Yorkshire and fox terrier. She has also passed these genes on to Sir Henry, while Biene still shows the influence of a pug or bodeguero. Whatever this wonderful lineage has brought together, all involved carry the title "Cuteness Overload" with pride. How Angie ended up on the abandoned property, the circumstances under which she gave birth to her babies, and what the approximately 3-year-old (as of May 2024) show-off mother has already seen and experienced, will likely remain a mystery. Angie, however, seems to have gathered only a few good experiences with people. Although she is already brave when our friends enter the room, and even after some time, she reacts very happily to cuddles, Angie is still shy and needs time, patience, and a quiet environment to make contact. But since every kind word and offered treat is already met with a happy wag of the tail, our partners are very sure that Angie will soon thaw in a safe environment with patient, loving people and turn into a enthusiastic snuggly ball. Biene and Sir Henry have now been vaccinated and treated for parasites for the first time. Once the vaccination is complete in a few days, they can meet other dogs more purposefully. For now, they are only learning from their mother and are therefore quite cautious when interacting with two-legged beings. But since both are cheerful terrier heads who can also manage to get their still so young mother to play and run around, they will certainly seek out contact with friendly dogs through play, which will help them find the animal welfare workers who are responsible for distributing especially tasty treats and mastering the art of colorful balls. Biene and Sir Henry are simply looking for humorous, friendly, and patient people who can show them how to become a wild, bouncing playmobile. Initially, they will certainly need more security and guidance than puppies that have been socialized directly with people – but the two clearly show that they are ready to embrace the adventure of "Life as a Family Dog." A friendly, confident, and cheerful four-legged friend in the house who eases the transition for the little family addition would be great, but of course, it is not mandatory. As with all our puppy children, we recommend a visit to dog training classes – after the new family member has had enough time to settle into the new home. If you want to pave the way for Biene or Sir Henry (or both?!) from the animal shelter into a loving home, we look forward to hearing from you soon!

About Sir Henry

What life with Sir Henry looks like

Sir Henry is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sir Henry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sir Henry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sir Henry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sir Henry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sir Henry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sir Henry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sir Henry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
