Skadi

Podenco · Female · Young · 2 years

Triple A Benelux: Input July 30, 2026: Skadi arrived at our shelter without a chip and without any background information. She was found by a volunteer shortly after the hunting season in Spain. To put it bluntly, our poor Skadi was likely an “aftermath” of the hunters’ activities. We’ve named her Skadi as a nod to a figure from Norse mythology—the goddess of the hunt. Initially, Skadi was extremely shy and fearful, avoiding human contact as much as possible. Fortunately, this has improved dramatically in the meantime! She now feels comfortable around people, though she’s still not much of a cuddlebug. She walks beautifully on a leash and loves adventurous hikes in nature—especially when accompanied by a canine buddy. She lives harmoniously with other dogs in our group, including a playful female dog and a sociable Podenco male. With Maus, she goes exploring together in our fenced parks. The underbrush is thoroughly screened, and all we ever see of them are their wagging tails poking above it all. Skadi absolutely adores treats—so as soon as she hears the rustle of a snack bag, she’s right there beside you, sticking out her slender nose to make sure she gets more than just one little treat. So far, we haven’t taken Skadi to a more urban environment yet. A quiet suburban area close to nature, fields, and forests would naturally be ideal. Skadi is overjoyed whenever she gets to go outside and sniff around. This lady is a purebred Podenco with a keen interest in mice, birds, and butterflies. It would be best if her future owner is familiar with Podencos and ideally has experience with them themselves—or with Bretons or similar breeds. Who’s ready to help Skadi embark on a new path soon? NB: Skadi has now been tested for Mediterranean diseases and has tested negative for Leishmania.

About Skadi

What life with Skadi looks like

Skadi is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skadi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skadi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skadi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skadi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skadi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skadi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skadi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
