Adopt Ślepek

Mixed Breed · Male

Ślepek – a special dog with a big heart Status: available for adoption Ślepek is a dog who slowly but consistently opens up to people. Initially distant, he now often seeks the company of household members – he comes into the kitchen to see what's going on, lies down in the living room next to people, and takes short naps where he feels safest. He still likes his own corners, but doesn't avoid contact. He is independent, yet can show tenderness – on his own terms. He is friendly to everyone: familiar faces and complete strangers alike. He gets along very well with other dogs, although if he senses tension, he can clearly express his opinion. Cats and children he treats neutrally – he doesn't seek relationships with them, but also doesn't get into conflicts. At the veterinarian, he remains calm, and at home he sleeps all night. He barks rarely and only when really necessary – for example, when someone arrives. On walks, Ślepek shows his energetic, cheerful side. Before calming down, he does his cute "bunny hops," enjoys the space and freedom. When he has released his emotions, he walks calmly and happily sniffs around. Open, safe areas would be ideal for him. In the car, he is initially restless, but just speaking to him is enough – he quickly returns to balance and lies down, and subsequent trips go better and better. At home, Ślepek loves peace the most. His favorite place is the bedroom, where he rests and regains his strength. He can be left alone, both with other dogs or completely by himself. He is a dog with character – he has his own rules and expects them to be respected. He is not the type of soft cuddly toy that will allow anything. He is looking for a caregiver who respects his boundaries, is consistent, and will provide him with a stable life. Ślepek had encephalitis, which worsened his vision – he can only see partially, but he manages perfectly and it's almost not noticeable in daily life that he has limitations. He does not require treatment – he only takes medication for the thyroid. He is a dog who lives at his own pace – joyful, independent, and grateful for every peaceful day. He is looking for a person who understands his uniqueness and allows him to just be himself. If you are looking for a loyal friend and can respect a dog's individuality – Ślepek may be waiting for you. —- DOG PROFILE —- 🧮 Year of birth: 05/2019 🚻 Gender: male 🐾 Size: medium/large - about 25kg 🏀 Activity level: medium ❤️ neutered: yes ℹ️ Microchip: yes 💉 Vaccinations: yes ✅ dog is under the care of the Tricity branch of the Foundation for Puppies Judyta ✅ Adoption requirement: completing the questionnaire, pre-adoption visit, and signing the adoption agreement ✅ LINK TO QUESTIONNAIRE:

U weterynarza zachowuje spokój, a w domu śpi całą noc.

About Ślepek

What life with Ślepek looks like

Ślepek is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ślepek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ślepek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ślepek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ślepek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ślepek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ślepek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Judyta dla Psiego Losu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ślepek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
