Martie

Lurcher Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Martie LOVES everyone he meets, dogs and humans included. He has such a zest for life, it is infectious and you can't help but feel joyful in his presence. Martie loves to zoom around, in true sighthound style, super fast and intentional, it is very enjoyable to watch! He would love to do this with another dog and to have to have a good play with them, however, due to his zest, he needs a tolerant dog to match his energy. Martie will need some work on his house-training when in a new environment, but he is a very quick learner and very food motivated, so we think this will be easily done. Martie is a young, active dog so will thrive in a home that is looking for an active dog to take for fun adventures and do some fun training with. He's so loving and fun to be around, he will steal anyone's heart! Martie is a 1.5-year old Lurcher who is 100 miles per hour is the best possible way! He is looking for a home where his humans can be around a lot of the time initially to help settle him in and learn the lay of the land, as he does struggle being left. Martie would love to live with another dog, but they would need to be tolerant of a young, excitable, playful dog whilst also helping him learn about the big wide world. Due to Martie's energy, he would love an active home that are able to take him out for fun adventures and keep his brain nice and busy! Any children in the home would need to be of secondary school age, as he can be boisterous at times. Martie walks well on lead for the most part, but may need a bit of work for when he gets excited. We love this young chap, and can't wait to see him thriving in his forever home!

About Martie

What life with Martie looks like

Martie is a large young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Martie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
