Smilla

European Shorthair · Unknown · Kitten · 1 month

Cat mother Smillia had taken up residence in a company building with her four kittens. The location was too dangerous for the family, so we took them in. So far, no one has come forward claiming to know the five of them. After vaccination and deworming, they were allowed to move into the adoption area. Meanwhile, Smilla found her four little ones increasingly exhausting, so she’s now living together with other adult cats—though this still makes her anxious. She hisses frequently, even when just another cat walks by. But things are getting better every day. She’s still very afraid of people, and fleeing is her first instinct. We’re looking for a new home for this lovely mom—a home that allows her later outdoor access and that offers loving people who’ll invest time and patience in helping Smilla adjust at her own pace. Children shouldn’t be too young and should already have some experience handling anxious cats.

About Smilla

What life with Smilla looks like

Smilla is a small puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smilla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smilla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smilla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smilla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smilla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smilla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smilla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
