Smokey

Female · Young · 1 year

This little girl was born in foster care with us at the end of October 2025. Smokey is incredibly curious and always wants to investigate what's going on around her. If she gets the chance, she likes to sneak into rooms where she doesn't really have access in foster care. She loves people and enjoys sitting with you on the couch and isn't shy about giving a few kisses. She is a social and trusting rabbit who thrives well in company. However, she is not particularly fond of being lifted. Fortunately, it is rarely necessary - if you throw some pellets into the travel cage, she will happily run right in on her own. Smokey was recently neutered and has become very good at using her toilet. She's not quite there yet, but we think it will continue to get even better as hormones have time to calm down. When it comes to food, she is a simple lady. She eats hay and pellets with great appetite. She hasn't had fruit and vegetables because her stomach gets a bit upset easily. If you want to introduce this, it must happen very gradually and carefully.

About Smokey

What life with Smokey looks like

Smokey is a large young adult rabbit waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo in Oslo.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smokey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smokey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smokey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smokey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Smokey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smokey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smokey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
