Smudge & Belle

British Shorthair · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Hi, I’m Smudge and this is my feline companion, Belle. We’re sadly looking for a new home together as we weren’t getting on very well with the new baby in our home. If you would like to know more about us, then please read on. Our personalities: We can both be a bit shy at first, but generally I’ll be the first to make friends with new people, and usually Belle will start to warm up to you soon after. Once we’ve had some time to get to know you, we’re both incredibly friendly and enjoy human company. We especially love head scratches and chin rubs, and whilst I’m a lap cat who loves to snuggle, Belle would much rather be next to or near to you. Children: In our new home, we would not like to live with children. Sadly we struggled to adjust to the new baby in our previous home and find younger children a bit scary and overwhelming. We would like to live in either an adult only home, or as part of a calm family home with older teenagers. Other animals: We are looking for a home together as the only pets, and wouldn’t like to share our home with other cats and dogs. Additional needs: We have previously lived as indoor only cats, but we’ve been enjoying having a little outside space of our own here in the cattery, and would love to be able to have a safe garden to call our own, away from busy roads. We will need a slow introduction to the great outdoors, and it’s not known if we will wander or hunt. As we’re British Shorthairs, we can be predisposed to breed specific health issues. If potential adopters have experience of our breed, this would be ideal or be willing to do plenty of research into the British Shorthair breed. We would make such lovely companions to the right people. Could we be your purrfect match? Love from Smudge and Belle xxx

About Smudge & Belle

What life with Smudge & Belle looks like

Smudge & Belle is a young adult british shorthair cat waiting at Raystede Centre in Ringmer.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Smudge & Belle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Smudge & Belle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Raystede Centre handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Smudge & Belle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Smudge & Belle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Raystede Centre will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Smudge & Belle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Smudge & Belle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Raystede Centre early rather than rehoming privately; they know Smudge & Belle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
