Arla

British Shorthair Β· Female Β· Adult Β· 8 years

Arla is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves the simple things in life: a comfy place to sleep, plenty of affection and, most importantly, food! She can be timid at first, but once settled she is a loving, easy-going companion. Arla is used to children, is particularly comfortable around women and is perfectly happy being left alone for periods of time. Arla previously lived with her twin sister, Luna, before she sadly passed away. She now mainly remains inside, although she is used to having access to a cat flap and will occasionally venture outside to toilet. She is also fully litter trained. Food is definitely the way to Arla’s heart! She loves wet food, particularly Sheba and Gourmet, with some dry food too. She does have a sensitive tummy, so cheaper foods are best avoided as they can cause an upset stomach. She’s well behaved at the vets, has no known medical conditions and isn’t destructive around the home. Grooming isn’t exactly her favourite activity, but she’ll tolerate it when she has to! Arla is a lovely, low-maintenance companion looking for a comfortable home where she can settle in, snooze to her heart’s content and keep a close eye on the food cupboard. 🐾

About Arla

What life with Arla looks like

Arla is an adult british shorthair cat waiting at StraySafe Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction β€” every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. StraySafe Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” StraySafe Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Arla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with StraySafe Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
