Socks

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description of Socks – here the name becomes the program. With its four elegant, white "socks" on its paws, Fellnase looks sophisticated and smart. And it is naturally so! Unfortunately, we cannot report much about Socks's past. The region in southern Spain is known for the practice of discarding or abandoning hunting dogs or their puppies. Therefore, the handsome male dog keeps his sock-like life story to himself. Socks is initially reserved, shy, and cautious; however, he is not a fearful dog. He just needs a bit more time to build trust, especially with men. But Socks is making good progress; his confidence is improving daily at the our shelter. He now even allows staff members who come less frequently to pet and stroke him (and even looks forward to it!). He shows increasing cautious interest. Even with larger children, Socks is friendly but reserved. He does nothing, but also does not really seek contact with the younger two-legged ones. We do not know how Socks reacts to cats. When our "Rabe Socke" thaws out, he is very playful and engages in full-body play! In the yard, Socks had a top-notch Podenca friend named Margot. Even if the two could have enjoyed their runs in the open yard, they preferred to play together indoors. Socks's friend has already moved out of the animal shelter into her own home – still an unfulfilled dream for Socks. In a new home, a present, active (because play!) doggy buddy (or a small pack) would be perfect for Socks, especially to ease his transition into his new life. A welcome addition would be a more rural area, as he would be too stressed in the large, asphalted city, and a nice, fenced garden for running and playing. Socks needs physical and mental stimulation; he is very active and intelligent – and he deserves to show it. Whom can our active, boot-clad Podi-Mix find a new, loving home with? About Socks

What life with Socks looks like

Socks is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Socks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Socks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Socks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Socks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Socks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Socks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Socks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
