Stasia

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

At the moment, Stasia is not yet ready for adoption. The person where she was staying did not relinquish her rights, so we are waiting for the court’s decision. This is a difficult and lengthy process, but we believe it will turn out well for her. Stasia arrived at our animal shelter in January 2026. She was rescued interdictively by the WIOZ foundation. What they found there was hard to call life – she was tethered in a stable with such a short chain that she couldn’t even reach her bowl freely. When they entered… she simply sat there. Calmly. As if she was waiting. Not for a rescue – but for a human. At first, she was a shadow of a dog. Withdrawn, frightened, unsure of every movement and every sound. A human seemed to her more like pain than safety. Today, she is already a completely different Stasia. She is a girl who blossoms with proximity. When she sees a familiar face, her eyes begin to sparkle, her tail gently wags, and her paw seeks contact – as if she’s saying: “hey, give me a moment more to be petted.” She is thirsty for affection in a way that breaks the heart… because it’s clear how much of that she has lacked. She walks on a leash with exemplary manners. Close, calmly, attentively. She doesn’t tug or pull. She simply wants to be beside you. As if somewhere inside her, she still has a fear that if she goes too far, she will be left alone again. If you think she will run wild and run around uncontrollably on the play area – nothing of the sort. She will sit beside you quietly. She will observe the world, catch the scents carried by the wind, and enjoy your presence.

Stasia przyjechała do naszego schroniska w styczniu 2026 roku. Spokojnie. Jakby czekała. Nie na ratunek - na człowieka. Na początku była cieniem psa. Wycofana, zalękniona, niepewna każdego ruchu i każdego dźwięku. Człowiek kojarzył jej się raczej z bólem niż z bezpieczeństwem. Dziś to już zupełnie inna Stasia. To dziewczynka, która rozkwita przy bliskości. Kiedy widzi znajomą twarz, jej oczy zaczynają błyszczeć, ogon delikatnie merda, a łapka sama szuka kontaktu - jakby mówiła: „hej, pogłaszcz mnie jeszcze chwilę”.

About Stasia

What life with Stasia looks like

Stasia is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Stasia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Stasia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Stasia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Stasia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Stasia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Stasia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Stasia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
