Steffen

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Steffen was rehomed after recovering in September 2015. My name is Steffen. I am male, neutered and born around 2010. I have been waiting for a new home since June 2015. Steffen is a stray cat who initially seemed a bit unusual, but has since proven to be a cuddle monster. Steffen is always one thing: loving, more loving, even more loving. After a short adjustment period, he got along very well with his fellow animals and greets every human being in his loving, but never intrusive way. He is not a giant, but also not a dwarf, and yet he is so gentle that we can easily imagine Steffen in a family with children. He can be kept as an indoor cat, but we can also imagine Steffen as an outdoor cat later on. Steffen is modest and easygoing; the soft cat obviously needs cuddles, although he shows this with noble restraint. Whoever adopts Steffen will certainly be able to call him a balanced tomcat, who will behave as if it had always been that way upon arrival, as the most natural thing in the world. The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in its new home.

About Steffen

What life with Steffen looks like

Steffen is a medium-sized senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Steffen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Steffen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Steffen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Steffen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Steffen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Steffen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Steffen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
