Sultan

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Like many others, he has nothing to do behind bars... but even less than the others, as he is kind, affectionate and full of life. He is a loving dog desperately waiting for his chance. Sultan is a joyful, cuddly and very playful pup. He loves ball sessions or rope games with other animals of the same species. He is a real kid in a strong body, sometimes a bit rough in play, but always well-meaning. He also knows how to calm down to enjoy moments of tenderness. He is sociable with females and neutered males, and can cross with intact males without problem if guided. He does not provoke, but defends himself if challenged. He does not like cats. On walks, he can pull if he meets another dog or if he is not properly controlled, but he is generally obedient. He already knows "sit," "lie down," "give," "wait"... and is progressing in recall. As a category 2 dog, his adoption requires a permit and insurance. However, his level 1 behavioral test shows that he is very balanced. Sultan is a great dog, very kind, funny, affectionate, and calm outside of play. He will bring happiness to a present, loving family ready to continue his education gently. Sultan is a category 2 dog, but this in no way means he is dangerous since his behavioral test is level 1 out of 4, indicating he is no more dangerous than any other dog. However, for category 2 dogs, there is a regulation: * For the owner, who must have: - a clean record - a certificate of suitability for first and second category dogs * For the dog: - the behavioral test - a passport + rabies vaccination Sultan already has his test, passport and vaccination. He will also need to be registered at the town hall and have insurance for second category dogs. For his adoption, we additionally require a very well-fenced garden. Given that the dog must be muzzled outside the yard, we will not accept placements in apartments. The future adopter must own their home to avoid problems in case of relocation.

About Sultan

What life with Sultan looks like

Sultan is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Sans Collier Provence in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sultan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sultan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sans Collier Provence handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sultan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sultan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sans Collier Provence will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sultan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sultan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sans Collier Provence early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sultan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
