Sumak

Husky · Male · Adult · 4 years

Origin Country: Hungary The beautiful Sumak found its way to Menhely in Kecskemét on November 19, 2025, as a surrender dog. The reasons are of a private nature, but for Sumak, a whole world came crashing down, the loss of his familiar people and his home. Unfortunately, his people did not notice that his testicles had never descended and were still in his abdomen/thigh area, as he was not neutered. Cryptorchidism can be painful, lead to hormonal disturbances, and there is an increased risk of testicular cancer. This could now be remedied with castration at the animal shelter. We are crossing our fingers that he will soon find loving people who will show him the sunny sides of life and give him love and security. Sumak is a friendly, lively, and clever four-legged friend who has developed wonderfully, for at the beginning he had trouble with his new living situation. This is understandable, because life in the animal shelter is not easy and very stressful. Sumak loves running around on the playground and racing with his doggy friends. He knows how to walk on a leash, but there are still some fine points to be polished. However, he should still be schooled with his people, because he is not yet familiar with the doggie basics, but is ready to make up for what he missed, because he wants to learn and be liked. He would certainly appreciate mental and physical stimulation. Sumak would definitely make a great companion for jogging, cycling, hiking, or similar activities, as long as you have a good time together. Sumak is a regular participant in the mentor program. He loves all the visitors and enjoys playing and being cuddled. He would like to have this every day and not just on Saturdays. He gets along well with his fellow animals and lives in a mixed pen. For our wonderful and smart Sumak, we are looking for patient and dog-loving people who can give Sumak clear but loving guidance, from which he can orient himself, a framework in which he can unfold. Active two-leggeds who like to be outdoors a lot, Sumak can give structure and security so that he can relax and be spoiled with lots of cuddles. He needs people by his side on which he can fully rely, then you will get a loyal four-legged friend who will go through thick and thin with his family. Topf Sumak is looking for the perfect lid! On March 16, 2026, a voluntary, Hungarian helper wrote: "Sumak came into the care of the animal shelter in November 2025. He was surrendered. It was very distressing for him to have to part with his owners. In March 2025, we got to know him on the animal shelter playground on the mentor day. Sumak was immediately friendly with all the mentors on the playground. He did not bark or growl. He sought the proximity of people very clearly. He asked for petting and stood patiently to be spoiled. He enjoyed that someone took care of him. He wanted to be the first one that someone would pay attention to. Even the care of his fur was something he took with joy. He even sat on the lap of a mentor. He is a very lovable, sweet, and clingy dog who seeks a lot of affection. He lives with several other dogs in a pen and has integrated well into the group." Who can show Sumak who he really is? Sumak is ready for travel.

DE·Show original

About Sumak

What life with Sumak looks like

Sumak is a adult husky dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sumak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sumak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sumak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sumak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sumak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sumak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sumak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
