Szczęsny

Mixed Breed · Male

Though he has a bit of "kundelkow" in his blue blood, there is no denying that Szczęsny is a proud representative of his breed - the German Shepherd. And like all German Shepherds, he suffers more behind bars than other dogs. He is very impatient - as soon as he sees volunteers, he jumps, barks, as if he’s afraid we won’t notice him, that we’ll forget about him. With other dogs, he has different arrangements, but we’re working on that. It looks like Szczęsny simply wasn’t taught how to relate to other dogs. After all - not much has been taught to him, he displays chain-dog behaviors, in emotions he spins a wheel as if he’s still attached to a kennel. But he’s still a young dog - anything can be taught to him, and he learns with great enthusiasm - after all, he’s almost a shepherd! We recommend him for homes with adults or with older children - a little one might accidentally knock him over, for now he behaves sometimes like a elephant in a porcelain shop. In the near future, we’ll be teaching him to ride in a car, showing him the city and the associated sounds. At this moment, we’re looking for a home in a quiet place for him and caregivers who understand that German Shepherds are working dogs, not mascots. Dogs that love to learn, get tasks to do, be close to a human, but such a one that knows when to give the dog peace and quiet. Szczęsny changes week by week, so maybe soon we’ll write that you can adopt him to the center in Warsaw, because Marszałkowska is no challenge for him! As if not - you can already come to walk with him today and personally see what a great dog he is.

W najbliższym czasie będziemy go uczyć jazdy samochodem, pokażemy mu miasto i związany z nim gwar.

About Szczęsny

What life with Szczęsny looks like

Szczęsny is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szczęsny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szczęsny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szczęsny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szczęsny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szczęsny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szczęsny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szczęsny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
