Adopt Tassilo

Belgian Tervuren · Male · Young · 2 years

Hello! I am Tassilo! In the course of an official inspection, I ended up at the animal shelter our shelter. I am a friendly, active, and young Terrier boy. My previous home was not entirely ideal, so I still have a lot to learn. Sometimes I can be a bit unsure – I might get startled by quick movements or loud noises. Under high stress or frustration, I might start nipping in the arms. Here, I need to learn alternatives. With familiar people, I am very cuddly and use my whole body. I am generally friendly, but I do not get along with cats. Health-wise, I show no major issues, but I am very thin and need to gain weight urgently. I am looking for a home with active people who already have experience with herding dogs and can patiently teach me what I still need to learn. Children, other dogs, and cats should not live in the same household. If you would like to give me a home, please contact the animal shelter!.

Servus! Dein Tassilo

About Tassilo

What life with Tassilo looks like

Tassilo is a large young adult belgian tervuren dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Underweight, needs to gain weight. Snaps when stressed or frustrated, requires behavioral training.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tassilo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tassilo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tassilo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tassilo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tassilo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tassilo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tassilo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
