Hutch

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 9 years

American Staffordshire Terrier unneutered male dog, born 2017 | Height: 50 cm | Weight: ca. 25 kg | Children: see text | Cats: unknown | Dogs: unknown vaccinated | microchipped | available for adoption This animal can be adopted if there is suitable space and after sufficient getting to know each other. Hutch is a Staffordshire-male dog born in 2017 who had to be given up by his previous owners due to poor husbandry. He lived with his former owners in a more rural area, together with several children aged 1 to 3 years. There were often tensions with the children, who were allowed to do everything with him, but Hutch never hurt anyone. Strangers in the house were a big issue. With us, he shows a fair and sovereign handling as very nice and open. Currently, we cannot confirm any of his "problem topics." Neither during the vet check nor during the yard walk has he had any problems with people. Hutch can be left alone for a reasonable amount of time and is also house-trained. He lets himself be fitted with a muzzle and wears it properly. Regarding leash training and everyday training, a little fine-tuning is still needed. The 9-year-old male dog was not much accustomed to the car, so he is not yet well-versed in it. We do our best to provide him with as much as possible for his further journey, but potential new owners must still expect that he will need further training. Hutch seeks experienced dog friends. As a list dog, the extended knowledge must be acquired for him.

About Hutch

What life with Hutch looks like

Hutch is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hutch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hutch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hutch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hutch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hutch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hutch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hutch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
