Adopt Timo

Male · Adult · 6 years

Background: This handsome young man is Timo. Timo is a mixed breed male dog weighing approximately 20 kg. He was born in November 2020 and came to us after a large seizure. He lived in a large group and did not receive the necessary care they needed! He was adopted but ultimately did not find his way as a "single dog." Therefore, he came back to us. Character: Timo is an energetic young man who also enjoys the calm around him. He was initially quite unsure but is now very enthusiastic. There is still some uncertainty, but his curiosity and enthusiasm take over. He likes being with you and enjoys attention. He ignores many dogs but can sometimes react unexpectedly from the side on the leash. This is therefore an area for improvement, but with stable, positive guidance, he does well. He gets along well with others. This with a stable, correct female dog that is at least as big as him. Staying alone at home is still difficult but he does well again when there is another dog (dogs) present. Therefore, we are looking for a home where this can be built up. A securely fenced garden is certainly necessary. He seems like a little goat and likes to climb obstacles (garden tables, raised areas,...) In the foster family where he was allowed to stay, he eventually stayed quite loose, together with the other dogs in the house. The cat of the house also accepted him after some guidance. Placement: Timo is looking for a home with motivated people and few stimuli around (rather a quiet neighborhood without immediate neighbors where there could be distractions). This home must therefore definitely be shared with a social female dog. He benefits a lot from this and follows their example nicely. He knows nothing else but having the company of other dogs and finds peace in it. He can also get along with house cats that stand their ground. He is too enthusiastic for small children and is somehow too uncertain. Getting in contact with them is certainly not harmful, but living with them is still difficult. Children aged 10 and above can get to know him.

AchtergrondDeze knappe jongeman is Timo.

About Timo

What life with Timo looks like

Timo is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden in Sint-Truiden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Timo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Timo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Timo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Timo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Timo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Timo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Timo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
