Kyra

Golden Retriever · Female · Senior · 11 years

BackgroundThis lovely senior lady is Kyra. She was born in November 2015 and came to us after an impound. She lived, together with another dog and cats, in an enormous dirty house… We hope that she may still find a warm home in her old age! CharacterKyra is a sweet girl. She has a very good character, is friendly, loving,… In short, everything to be a nice house dog! Only building up trust will certainly be needed. She walks well on a leash, but her walks no longer need to last hours. A short block around and access to a yard (or small one) are more than enough! She can still be enthusiastic and enjoy a fun playtime together with her companion!CareKyra had quite a bit of excess weight when she came to us and a very dirty coat. She has already lost a few kilos and had a good bath. Her coat certainly requires maintenance in the future. This she allows quite well.PlacementKyra is a friendly girl who can be placed in a home without a dog or where a male dog is already present. She also lived with cats, so this is also possible.Because of her age, we do not place her with small children. This would be too stressful for her. Children from 8 years old who respect her space may certainly come to meet her.

AchtergrondDeze lieve senior dame is Kyra.

About Kyra

What life with Kyra looks like

Kyra is a small senior golden retriever dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden in Sint-Truiden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
