Tobina

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Stray dogs are encountered everywhere in Romania. Industrial areas are no exception, as many dogs often live in the shelters of halls and messy yards. In addition to the protection provided by the area, sometimes workers at industrial sites feed the dogs. However, sometimes dogs become a problem for one reason or another, and then people want to get rid of them quickly. If lucky, the dogs are called to a nearby animal shelter instead of being left in a public garden. This happened in January 2020, when Delia, who maintains the Care for Dogs farm, received a call about dogs living near an industrial area. The dogs were wanted to be removed, so Delia and her team took the dogs to a safe shelter kennel. One of the dogs is Tobina, who has remained in the shelter kennel without the possibility of a better life due to his shyness. Tobina is still shy. He does come curiously to the fence to watch people's activities and eats the treats offered through the fence, but as soon as a person enters the kennel run, he retreats further away. He is clearly interested in people's activities, but approaching and touching him makes him nervous. All necessary medical treatments at the shelter kennel have always gone smoothly. Tobina gets along well with his cage mates, and a lively dog companion would certainly be a great help in his future home or foster home.

Romaniassa kodittomiin koiriin törmää joka puolella. Teollisuusalueet eivät ole poikkeus, vaan hallien ja sotkuisten pihojen suojissa viihtyy usein suuri määrä koiria. Alueen tarjoamien suojien lisäksi monilla teollisuusalueilla työntekijät välillä ruokkivat koiria. Toisinaan koirat muodostuvat kuitenkin syystä tai toisesta ongelmaksi ja silloin niistä halutaan päästä nopeasti eroon. Jos hyvä tuuri käy, koirista soitetaan läheiselle eläinsuojalle kunnallisen tarhan sijaan. Näin kävi tammikuussa 2020, kun Care for Dogsin tarhaa ylläpitävä Delia sai soiton läheisellä tehdasalueella elävistä koirista. Koirista haluttiin päästä eroon ja niinpä Delia tiimeineen haki koirat turvaan tarhalle. Yksi koirista on Tobina, joka on arkuutensa vuoksi jäänyt tarhalle vailla mahdollisuutta parempaan elämään. Tobina on edelleen arka.

About Tobina

What life with Tobina looks like

Tobina is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tobina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tobina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tobina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tobina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tobina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tobina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tobina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
