Toffee

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

This is Toffee! A dog gave birth in a very unfriendly neighborhood and the residents threatened to throw them away. The veterinarian took them in and volunteers offered to take in some of them. 3 have been placed in foster care, 2 are still with the veterinarian. Toffee is 1 of those 2. Toffee is sweet, playful and affectionate. He is a bit shy at first, but not a timid character. He is a friendly dog. He goes for walks every day and walks perfectly on a leash. Toffee lives with cats and dogs at the veterinarian. He is friendly and social with other dogs. All the times he came into contact with children, it went well. In early September, Toffee is scheduled for a castration. Toffee is now 23 kg and is likely to weigh 25 kg and grow 55 cm tall, which makes him a big dog. He can be placed as a single animal.

About Toffee

What life with Toffee looks like

Toffee is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Mirtos Animal Project in Netherlands.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toffee, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toffee?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mirtos Animal Project handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toffee on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toffee if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Mirtos Animal Project will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Toffee already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toffee isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mirtos Animal Project early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toffee and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
