Adopt TONY

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Estimated birthdate: June 2019 Brief info: very friendly, people-oriented, cuddly, adventurous, curious, playful, sporty, family+, youth-friendly, female dogs(+), male dogs(+), cats(+) Christine & Thomas D. The male dog TONY, estimated to have been born in June 2019, was discovered on the street in March 2021 and came to the animal shelter. TONY is an absolutely people-oriented and friendly male dog. He is adventurous, curious, and energetic. Additionally, he is playful and loves playing with a ball. And he is a very enthusiastic and stormy cuddle bear who can also take a moment to enjoy things. When meeting the young Vera, he showed himself to be very friendly and calm. And during the walks with the volunteer dog walkers, he walks calmly beside other dogs. However, during the compatibility test on April 25, he was a bit overwhelmed and therefore a bit tense – with several dogs and people present. One can see that he is not accustomed to such situations and had to let out a growl. But he can be "reprimanded" well, and we think that with practice and more routine, he can also become more relaxed here. One can already see this in the video :-). When meeting the test cat, he showed no particular interest, so he could possibly be accustomed to living with indoor cats with time and patience. For the wonderful TONY, we are now looking for active people with solid dog experience who want to show the handsome hound how wonderful an animal-appropriate life can be. He would certainly also be happy about a suitable dog sport or other varied activities and excursions. And of course, he still needs to learn the entire dog 1×1, but he is eager to learn and attentive. Due to his suspected mixed breed, TONY unfortunately cannot be rehomed to Germany but only to certain cantons of Switzerland (or to other countries without restrictions, such as Hungary). TONY will move to his new home neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport. Would you like to give this wonderful male dog a loving home? Then we look forward to your message!

About TONY

What life with TONY looks like

TONY is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting TONY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about TONY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw TONY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt TONY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is TONY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if TONY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know TONY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
