Tony

Husky · Male · Adult · 7 years

"Independent Chatterbox" Breed: Siberian Husky Gender: male, neutered Birthdate: August 2019 Height: just over knee-high Gets along with dogs: no Gets along with cats: according to the previous owner, yes Children in the same household: no Home sought: in the countryside The independent, 2019-born Siberian Husky male dog Tony is typically lively and talkative. Tony needs a get-to-know phase with people to overcome his initial skepticism. Other dogs unfortunately do not belong to his friends, but social walks with a safe distance and without direct contact are still possible. In his last home, Tony lived with a cat, and if this is also the case in his new home, an initial separation and patience will be necessary. Additionally, being left alone must be refreshed in the new home, as this was not a problem before, and a solid foundation should already be in place. Tony's future home should be childless, as he defends food from people and there was already a biting incident in his last home. Tony walks calmly on a leash – except when he smells something interesting – and is house-trained. Furthermore, the handsome fellow is nose-oriented, loves water, and enjoys swimming, showing a typical prey drive. For the independent chatterbox, we are seeking a home in the countryside.

About Tony

What life with Tony looks like

Tony is a medium-sized adult husky dog waiting at Wiener Tierschutzverein in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tony, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tony?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wiener Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tony on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tony if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wiener Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tony already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tony isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wiener Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tony and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
