Toto

Male · Adult · 5 years

Meet Toto! Toto (18kg) is looking for a patient and loving home where he can continue to build his confidence. When Toto first arrived with us, he was a very nervous and timid boy. While he has made good progress, he can still be a little unsure when meeting new people, so he needs an adopter who understands that he will need time, patience and plenty of positive experiences to help him come out of his shell. Once Toto gets to know you, his lovely personality really starts to shine through. He is a friendly boy who enjoys spending time with his people, loves playing with his toys and absolutely enjoys going out on long walks exploring. Toto is a clever boy who already knows his basic commands. He can spin on command and give both paws, and like many Terriers, he is very happy to show off his tricks where there are tasty treats involved! He was also a very good boy at the vets, which was lovely to see given how nervous he can initially be. Toto walks well on the lead and would make a wonderful companion for an active home that enjoys getting out and about. He will need his socialisation to continue in his new home, particularly to help him develop his confidence around people and new experiences. Toto may look quite small on the pictures but he is 18kg. Toto is looking for an experienced, patient adopter who will allow him to settle at his own pace and continue working positively on his confidence. Because of his nervous nature, multiple meet and greets will be required before Toto can be adopted. This is important to allow him and his new adopter to get to know one another and for Toto to feel comfortable with them. He will benefit from a private secure garden. Toto has socialised well with other dogs whilst in our care, so we feel he could potentially be rehomed with another dog following a successful meet and greet. (must be neutered) As Toto came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him, and as he can be quite nervous we would like any children in the home to be 14+ years.

About Toto

What life with Toto looks like

Toto is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
