Adopt Ukkie

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 3 months

animal shelter Tenerife (Sabine) Input 16 april 2026: We had all sorts of nice names in mind for this beautiful, small and vulnerable girl: Mini, Chibi, Dotje, Muis... but we have stuck to Ukkie because that's how we always call her! Ukkie is clearly the smallest of the sisters. She has a look that says a lot and really jumps straight into your heart. She is a sensitive and calm girl, she doesn't push herself forward but once on your lap she enjoys being petted and cuddled. Ukkie was born at our animal shelter. Her mother, Violeta, came from a hunter and was brought in very pregnant. Ukkie doesn't have a backpack but will still have to learn everything. We can't tell much more about her character yet but for now she stands out because she is calmer and "wiser" than the rest. Because she is not fully vaccinated she can't go outside yet. Once safe, we will quickly start with short walks so she can get used to the leash. Until then... we will just keep cuddling and giving treats! Ukkie can travel to NL from mid-May. Hopefully by then a kind family is waiting eagerly to take her into their arms and show her the beautiful outside world!

About Ukkie

What life with Ukkie looks like

Ukkie is a medium-sized puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ukkie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ukkie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ukkie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ukkie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ukkie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ukkie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ukkie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
