Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Zabek - a male, neutered dog, born around 2025, approximately 41-42 cm tall and weighing about 12 kg, has been at Belchatow Animal Shelter since May 26, 2026. Zabek looks up at us: his front teeth peek out slightly - this gives him a special, cute expression; Zabek means "little teeth." The small dog is sensitive and shy: he cannot fully assess new situations, such as our visit and observation here, he does not know how to react. Nevertheless, he lets himself be petted and picked up without any problems, he is absolutely not aggressive, does not snap, remains affectionate, but seems a bit "at a loss." The shelter team reports that Zabek was abandoned on the roadside and sat in a ditch for days, not moving from his spot. He is afraid of sudden movements and noises, jumps up, doesn't know what will happen next. It is possible he was beaten - it seems likely... Zabek - a delicate, dear, sensitive dog - needs a quiet home without stress and noise, without running children, this would stress the little Muck. He is still so young, he should gain good and positive experiences as quickly as possible; certainly, in a quiet, stress-free home, he will learn to get his fear of noise under control, loving words and security will do the dear fellow good and show him that he can be happy and trusting, and no longer have to be afraid. Zabek can walk on a leash, but it's still clear he is somewhat afraid of it; this is something he needs to practice or learn, that the leash doesn't hurt him. He shares his kennel with male and female dogs.

About Unknown

What life with Unknown looks like

Unknown is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Unknown, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Unknown?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Unknown on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Unknown if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Unknown already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Unknown isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Unknown and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
