Name: Valentin Breed: Border Collie Gender: male Size: approx. 52 cm Age: 31.01.2024 Weight: approx. 18 kg Child-friendly: Yes, gets along well with fellow animals: Yes Gets along well with cats: Yes, cat must be neutered: Yes Veterinarian Information: microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, EU-Pass Mediterranean Test: negative Remarks: Pfotenhilfe Sachsen Current Location: Germany / Sachsen Euro including transport: last update May 2026 Long ago, it was quiet around me, but now it's time to let people hear from me again. I wasn't idle during my winter break! I've learned to really love the snow; there's nothing more fun than playing in the white wetness with my doggy friends. I've also put on some weight, and my foster mom says I have ideal measurements now, not 90-60-90, but my normal weight. I continue to train diligently, and I can already show a good repertoire of signals, so communication between two-legged beings and me works well. What I really want now is my own family that will go through thick and thin with me. Of course, I'm doing great in my foster family, but if I only have to share cuddles with one other four-legged friend instead of six, that would be wonderful. My foster mom can't understand why no one has clicked yet, she always says I'm such a great boy, and by now, I've learned so much and am no longer an unblemished sheet of paper, but a polished diamond that still needs to be refined. So, if you feel like you're the one being addressed, and you think Valentin could complete our family, write to the association, and I look forward to getting to know you better, because I have to admit, I need a little something. Until soon, your Valentin Application at www.pfotenhilfe-sachsen. Gets along with other dogs.

About Valentin

What life with Valentin looks like

Valentin is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Valentin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Valentin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Valentin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Valentin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Valentin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Valentin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Valentin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
