Vanilla

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Vanilla - a little heart that finally wants to arrive Vanilla was found alone on a beach near a village on Aegina - without her mom, without siblings and without anyone to show her the way back to life. As a little puppy, this start must have been particularly frightening. And indeed, Vanilla was very cautious and anxious at the beginning. But already after just two days in her foster home, she showed what a wonderful being really is inside her. Vanilla is uncomplicated, confident, incredibly intelligent and just beautiful. She learns quickly and has already understood that people mean well to her. She already knows some commands, walks nicely on a leash and knows exactly what she wants. In her little head is a lot of curiosity and in her heart a lot of joy in life. Vanilla would love to have her people all to herself and go through life as a little single princess. She enjoys the attention and closeness of her people and wants to give them her heart. At the same time, she is social and can imagine sharing her home with a suitable companion. Now Vanilla really only needs one thing: her own family. People who show her that she will never be alone again. People who walk through life with her, give her security and give her the love she longs for so much. Vanilla has her difficult start behind her - now she is waiting to finally arrive where she can stay forever. Maybe her little happy ending is just with you. The animals are described as they behave in the animal shelter or foster home. They do not show this behavior immediately upon arrival. Some also initially react with anxiety to the new situation. Animals from animal welfare have all a past that was mostly less than beautiful to cruel. This past cannot be shed overnight. They need time to be able to arrive and trust. Please be patient and give your animal the time it needs!

About Vanilla

What life with Vanilla looks like

Vanilla is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vanilla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vanilla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vanilla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vanilla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vanilla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vanilla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vanilla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
