Adopt VEGAS

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Estimated birth date: September 2017 Brief info: friendly, active, adventurous, curious, sporty, cuddly, family+, older children+, female dogs(+), male dogs(+) VEGAS was estimated to have been born in September 2017 and came to the animal shelter in September 2023 after being found homeless on the street and reported by attentive passersby. VEGAS shares the fate with several other fur noses, who have been overlooked until now. Many dogs have been waiting in vain for their discovery for years, and with each passing year, their hope diminishes a little more. They have seen many other dogs – some even after a short time in the shelter – travel on, but they themselves have always been left behind. But we do not give up hope that these wonderful four-legged friends will also be noticed by someone and have the chance to enjoy a few beautiful dog years. Unlike the cute puppies or even the smaller adorable dogs, these older and larger fur noses often do not immediately catch your eye – despite their wonderful and lovable character traits. They too long for love, security, and their own true home, which many of you have never had the chance to experience. VEGAS is an active, curious, and energetic explorer. Unfortunately, he has had very few opportunities to satisfy his adventurous spirit, as regular walks are simply not possible in the shelter. When he is taken out of the pen, he is initially very excited and bouncy, and he might take you on a little walk. This settles down after a while, and then he even runs quite nicely on the leash. And he even finds the time for a few cuddles, because he also likes that. In the video from Apr-25, he is first seen with one of the familiar caregivers and later with an unknown girl. During the photo shoot there, the cheerful VEGAS offered a variety of silly facial expressions with his playful ears :-). As far as compatibility with other animals is concerned, he is generally friendly but also a bit stormy. Of course, he also lacks routine in dog encounters. If someone inquires about the beloved VEGAS, further tests can naturally be conducted. For the happy VEGAS, we are looking for active people with solid dog experience who can finally show this dogman how beautiful an animal-appropriate life can be. He would certainly be delighted with varied activities and exciting excursions. Of course, he also needs to learn the entire dog 1×1. Due to his suspected mixed breed, VEGAS unfortunately cannot be rehomed to Germany but only to certain cantons in Switzerland (or to other countries without restrictions, such as Hungary). VEGAS will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport for his new home. Has this charming fellow captured your heart? Then we look forward to your message!

About VEGAS

What life with VEGAS looks like

VEGAS is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting VEGAS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about VEGAS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw VEGAS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt VEGAS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is VEGAS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if VEGAS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know VEGAS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
