Venus

Presa Canario · Female · Adult · 3 years

Venus is a beautiful, affectionate girl with a heart as big as she is. She absolutely loves people and is always delighted to meet anyone she comes across. Friendly and gentle, she's more than happy to say hello, enjoys a fuss from everyone she meets, and even takes treats very politely. As a large breed dog, Venus is looking for owners who are confident handling bigger dogs. She can be strong on the lead at the start of a walk and becomes excited when she spots other dogs because she's keen to greet them. With calm guidance, she settles well and walks nicely, and she would benefit from some ongoing lead training to help her channel her enthusiasm.Venus has been lovely with the dogs she has met in our care, greeting them politely and showing friendly social skills. She enjoys saying hello and is very tolerant of other dogs' enthusiasm. She could potentially live with a calm, well-mannered dog who would be a good match for her, following successful introductions.Due to her size, Venus is looking for a home with a secure private garden with 6ft fencing where she has plenty of room to stretch her legs and relax. She could live with dog-savvy older children who are confident around large breed dogs, or teenagers. As we don't know much about Venus's previous home life, she is looking for a family who can be around for most of the time during her first few weeks to help her settle into her new surroundings. Once she feels safe and comfortable, any time spent alone should be introduced gradually, allowing her to build confidence at her own pace. With her loving nature, friendly personality and eagerness to be around people, Venus has so much to offer. She's ready to leave her past behind and find a family who will give her the happy, secure future she truly deserves.

About Venus

What life with Venus looks like

Venus is a large adult presa canario dog waiting at RSPCA Cornwall Branch in Saint Columb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Venus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Venus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Cornwall Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Venus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Venus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Cornwall Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Venus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Venus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Cornwall Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Venus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
