Adopt Vicente

Podenco · Male · Adult · 4 years

Triple A Benelux Input 6 February 2026: Our unique Vicente has been staying with us at our animal shelter for more than 3 years. He suffers from a degenerative brain condition. He has been seen by various specialists who have reached an accurate diagnosis. Since then, Vicente has received a precisely tailored treatment. Maintaining his health is not complicated. We have a clear and complete file on him which is available upon request. Vicente is a calm Podenco, affectionate and he loves to sleep. He enjoys being petted by our volunteers. Running through open fields, he likes to show his characteristic jump. Vicente would benefit from a quiet home with space and a garden, away from the hustle of the city and a place where he is understood and loved. He would be happy as the only dog, but can also get along with another calm dog that respects his character and needed space. Vicente can also get along with cats. Vicente is one of a kind, with a unique personality which can sometimes make it a bit difficult for other dogs to understand him well. A change of environment, such as moving to a new home, could take him out of his comfort zone. Therefore, it is currently being investigated whether an adoption would be suitable for Vincente by taking him on more day trips. Due to his neurological condition, he can sometimes become a bit upset and his behavior could become a bit unpredictable. That is why Vicente needs time to adjust to everything, after all, his health comes first! But what a lovely, special and unique guy he is!

Triple A Benelux Input 6 februari 2026: Onze unieke Vicente verblijft al ruim 3 jaar in ons asiel.

About Vicente

What life with Vicente looks like

Vicente is a small adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vicente, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vicente?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vicente on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vicente if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vicente already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vicente isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vicente and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
