Vigo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Mixed breed born around January 2025, approximately 37cm tall. Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs, cats and children have not yet been tested. Vigo is a young, lively male dog who immediately catches the eye with his slender build and attentive gaze. His black fur shines simply and beautifully, but it's his gentle eyes that reveal what truly lies within him: a friendly, playful puppy who desires nothing more than to finally belong somewhere. Currently, Vigo lives with our friends at an animal shelter in Portugal. Despite the unfamiliar environment, he remains open and accessible. He greets people in a friendly and interested manner, seeks their company, and enjoys all forms of attention. He also gets along well with other dogs, showing himself to be social and uncomplicated. There is the typical energy of a young dog in Vigo – he is playful, curious, and ready to explore the world. One can easily imagine him running joyfully across fields, playing with his humans, or simply walking happily beside them. At the same time, he seems like a dog who can relax once he has built trust – one who seeks closeness and will equally enjoy quiet moments. Vigo has so much potential to become a wonderful companion. He just needs the chance to get to know life outside the shelter – with people who give him time, patience, and love, and guide him step by step into his new life. His look seems to ask, when will it finally be time? When he doesn't have to wait anymore but can arrive at his new home. When he finds his own people. Who would like to show Vigo what a real home feels like and start a new, happy chapter together with him? Vigo is, of course, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, registered, and has had a check-up with a veterinarian. Additionally, he has been tested for Mediterranean diseases and brings an EU vaccination certificate to his new home. We have put all the pictures we have of Vigo into a slideshow above on the page. Mischling geb. About Vigo

What life with Vigo looks like

Vigo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. in Essingen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vigo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vigo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vigo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vigo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Vigo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vigo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vigo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
