Viktor

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 3 months

ViktorTrotz, despite his name, one cannot necessarily claim that Viktor is a winner. He was abandoned as a small puppy together with his two sisters. While his sisters found homes, the poor little Viktor has been stuck in the shelter for 7 years. He is a gentle, cautious dog, and very shy around strangers. Through the fence, he is happy to make contact, but as soon as someone comes into his kennel, he flees. Viktor is gentle and very loving. I met him on a walk with the leash at the shelter two years ago, in an attempt to help him lose some of his shyness towards people. It went better than expected, but it was clear that he did not feel comfortable at all. What Viktor needs, therefore, are people who can give him the time he needs. A garden for practice should be available. The city is certainly not for Viktor. We are therefore looking for people who live in a more rural or quiet environment. Viktor will have to learn a lot, and a hectic environment would not be suitable for him. Viktor gets along very well with other dogs. Info: What does it mean that the dog is not yet travel-ready? Our dogs are vaccinated in accordance with the rules and regulations. Rabies vaccinations are done annually in Serbia. To bring dogs from Serbia, which is now a listed third country, into the EU, they need a corresponding rabies titer. This measures whether there are enough antibodies against rabies in the blood. For Serbia, it is required that the titer test for entry into the EU be at least 3 months old. Since titers are expensive, not all dogs have the certificate, and it is only done when needed. Therefore, it can take up to 3 months for an adopted dog to become travel-ready. This involves taking blood from the dog and sending it to the lab. This is also the reason why our dogs are not available for adoption or travel until they are at least 8 months old. You cannot adopt Viktor, but you still want to support him? No problem. About Viktor

What life with Viktor looks like

Viktor is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad in Aachen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Viktor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Viktor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Viktor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Viktor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Viktor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Viktor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad early rather than rehoming privately; they know Viktor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
