Vito

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Vito is a small terrier mix male with a superhero mask. Vito is approximately 4 years old (as of October 2026) and with a shoulder height of about 27 centimeters, he is comfortable to handle. He doesn't need a big show, because Vito convinces more quietly. His history is sad and explains why he initially needs some time. Vito lived in a village with an older man who passed away. After the loss of his human, Vito was very depressed. Finally, the animal shelter was notified and took him in. Since then, it has become clear that he means a lot to people and that he can build a close bond. His heart is not at all small, even if the rest of him fits comfortably in a shoebox. Vito is a tender dog, very loving, gentle and calm. Initially, he can seem shy, but behind the cautious facade is a loyal friend who likes to be with his people. He is neither dominant nor noticeably anxious and approaches people friendly. Whoever gives him security, patience and a reliable daily routine is likely to experience how cautious reserve gradually becomes trust and real closeness. Loud self-presentation is not part of his repertoire; Vito rather relies on charm in room volume. He gets along well with other dogs. Whether he can live with cats or children and whether toys are among his great passions is currently unknown, but we think that Vito can discover many beautiful and funny things in life with the right people. For Vito, we wish a quiet, loving home with people who do not expect him to take over the entertainment program on the first day. A regular daily routine, friendly address and enough time to arrive will help him. A dog that is already social could fit well, but it is not a mandatory requirement. The most important thing is that his new people take his grief and his initial shyness seriously, without locking him in. Vito brings the best conditions for an intimate human-dog relationship: He seeks closeness, is compatible, gentle and pleasantly unagitated. Whoever wants to give a small dog with great bonding ability a safe place should definitely consider giving this wonderful gentleman in miniature a home.

DE·Show original

About Vito

What life with Vito looks like

Vito is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Vito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Vito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Vito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Vito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Vito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Vito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Vito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
