Winnie

Yorkshire Terrier · Female · Senior · 10 years

12-06-26 Winnie is a lovely older lady who originally came to us from a breeder and was fortunate enough to spend an extended period of time in a home. Sadly, she has returned to our care due to a relationship breakdown and the loss of her canine companion, leaving her world turned upside down once again. Winnie can be a little touch-sensitive and unsure at times, but beneath her shyness is a sweet and gentle soul. She prefers slow introductions and needs people who will give her the time and space to settle in and build trust at her own pace. We would consider homing her with teenagers 16+ who were dog savvy and would take things at her pace. She will need a calm and quiet home with at least one other kind and confident resident dog that she can look to for reassurance and companionship. We are told that she isn't always keen on smaller dogs and may prefer a doggy companion who is a little larger than her. Having another dog around will help her feel more secure as she adjusts to her new surroundings. As Winnie has lived in a home before, she is likely to already know many of the basics, although she may need a few gentle reminders as she settles into a new routine. She is a nervous walker on the lead and, given her age, may be much happier enjoying relaxed sniffing sessions and pottering around a secure garden rather than embarking on long adventures. Winnie is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can enjoy the comfort, security, and companionship she deserves. After everything she has been through, this sweet girl deserves nothing more than to spend her golden years curled up on a cosy sofa, surrounded by love and kindness. With patience, reassurance, and plenty of TLC, Winnie will make a wonderful companion for a family willing to offer her the peaceful retirement she so richly deserves. She has arrived with a Grade 1 luxating patella that may improve with gentle exercise, this will need to be monitored in her new home. She has also arrived with Peridontal disease and will be seen by our vets for a dental treatment. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Winnie

What life with Winnie looks like

Winnie is a senior yorkshire terrier dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winnie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winnie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winnie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winnie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winnie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winnie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winnie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
