Winston

Border Collie Β· Male Β· Puppy Β· 9 months

Beautiful baby boy Winston is looking for his forever family. Winston has shown some behavioural issues when meeting new people. This is fear based and will bark and lunge when new people enter his space or when out for a walk. After a short period of time he will be more confident and will interact more with a new person. He is ok around children and been around a young baby however due to his insecurities we feel he would need to be rehomed into an adult only home. The main thing is for him to be somewhere where he is the centre of attention and someone who is home most of the time Winston does not mind travelling in the car and enjoys going on adventures. He is a very active dog and enjoys his walks, he can walk for miles. He can pull on the lead and does react to people and dogs when on walks. He also has no recall. He also enjoys playing fetch with his ball so he would love a secure garden where he had the space to run around. Winston would be best as an only dog although has been successfully introduced to other dogs in the past. He is not cat tested. Winston does have distructive issues when left. He would benefit from an experienced owner who has dealt with reactivity issues in the past and theses issues has to be seriously considered when applying. We feel as a young pup he has the potential to make a fantastic dog. If you feel you have time and dedication to help Winston reach his full potential please contact the office directly on or click on β€œRequest to adopt Winston now”.

About Winston

What life with Winston looks like

Winston is a medium-sized puppy border collie dog waiting at DAWGS.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window β€” house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winston, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winston?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DAWGS handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winston on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winston if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” DAWGS will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Winston already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winston isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DAWGS early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winston and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
