Roman

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 5 years

15.06.2026 This wonderful Border Collie, 2.5 years old, is searching for a new home after his previous owners no longer wanted to keep him. He is a friendly dog who is still a bit nervous and unsure but responds well to training. He knows almost nothing of city life and the many impressions, sounds, and people make him more afraid than anything. Therefore, we wish for him a quiet, rural home. Like many Border Collies, he is intelligent, eager to learn, and wants to be both physically and mentally challenged. People with experience or an interest in the typical mental stimulation of a Border Collie would therefore be ideal. Currently, he is showing a resource problem in relation to food, so his new people should be ready to work with patience and understanding on this topic. We are searching for a home that offers him security, clear structures, and sufficient mental stimulation. With the right guidance, he will develop into a loyal and wonderful companion. Who will give these wonderful male dogs the chance at a new beginning?

About Roman

What life with Roman looks like

Roman is a adult border collie dog waiting at Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten in Arme Pfoten.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roman, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roman?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roman on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roman if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roman already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roman isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roman and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
