Woody

Male · Adult · 6 years

WOODY – SOUTH WALES Adoption fee is £300 6 years old Male, standard dachshund cross (11 kg) Tan, smooth coat Not neutered Woody is a friendly, loving dog who is looking for a new home as changes in the family circumstances mean he is being left on his own for too long and are unable to give him the time and attention he needs. Woody is an affectionate and gentle boy who loves human attention and cuddles. He is looking for a home where regular walks are a feature of every-day life: he is an energetic boy who is never happier than when sniffing through the undergrowth looking for adventures. He walks well on and off the lead and enjoys the freedom of outdoors life so would fit well into a family that also likes this. Although reasonably sociable, he can sometimes bark at unknown dogs and people. In the home, Woody is looking for a quiet and calm environment where he can relax and have a snuggle. He can bark at strange noises and, although part cavapoo, his bark is all dachshund! He is not a fan of people he does not know (particularly men) and shows this by barking at them – we will provide behaviourist support to help him learn that he does not need be on the alert every time a new person comes into the house, but he will be better suited to a home where there are not lots of visitors. Once settled, Woody can be left for short periods of time, although he will bark a bit before settling. He also currently lives with a cocker spaniel and enjoys the company so could be a great companion for another dachshund who loves walks. Woody is in excellent health. He is house-trained and sleeps in the kitchen in his own bed. He travels well in the car. This boy has a big heart and lots of love to give to his forever family. About Woody

What life with Woody looks like

Woody is a large adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Woody, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Woody?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Woody on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Woody if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Woody already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Woody isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Woody and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
