Wotan

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 11 years

Wotan—our enthusiastic diver and cuddle buddy. Now, every reader is probably wondering: Why only divers? Our Wotan actually loves passionately retrieving stones from all sorts of bodies of water, because he finds immense joy in it. He was born on January 1, 2015. Since Wotan is a Pitbull and therefore listed as a potentially dangerous breed in Saxony-Anhalt, he needs to undergo a temperament test. However, we don’t think this will be a big issue, as this sweet fellow is very friendly toward people and absolutely fond of children. Because Wotan has a strong hunting instinct, he should always be kept on a leash. Additionally, he’ll need further training in maintaining good contact with his owner during walks. Short trips in the car trunk are perfectly fine for him; longer journeys would still need to be tested. In his current foster family, this friendly, sloppy-nosed guy is used to routine and thus remains quite relaxed. In his future home, longer periods of being left alone shouldn’t be a problem. However, when his favorite humans are back home, he loves nothing more than cuddling—and gets sad if his people leave him alone in another room for more than 15 minutes. Wotan gets along well with female dogs; with male dogs, it depends on mutual compatibility. He’d love to remain an only dog in his new home. Now that everything has been said—who can give this loyal fellow a forever home, surrounded by wonderful people by his side? Wotan’s little dog heart would also be thrilled about godparents!

About Wotan

What life with Wotan looks like

Wotan is a large senior pit bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Stendal in Stendal.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wotan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wotan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stendal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wotan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wotan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stendal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wotan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wotan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stendal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wotan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
