How do I contact the shelter about Xena?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Xena if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Xena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Xena isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Xena

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 8 months

♀, born approx. 1/2026, social - lovable - active In Spain, Xena is a female Podenco (?) mixed breed dog born around 1/2026 with a shoulder height of approximately 45 cm. Xena was found alone and abandoned in a small Spanish town. She was probably abandoned and left to her fate. Since then, Xena has been waiting eagerly in the refuge for a loving and suitable home and a cozy warm dog bed to live happily in security and well-being. The cute and lovable dog is now looking for her final happiness, dedicated people who have a lot of time for her, challenge and encourage her, teach her the basics of dog training with calmness and patience, ideally combined with regular visits to dog school, and integrate her actively into their daily lives, where Xena finally experiences affection, love, and care. Xena is compatible with dogs of both sexes. She would like to be matched with other socially compatible confident dogs, preferably of similar age and size. She is very active for her age. A loving home is sought for Xena with active people who have a lot of time for her, as well as a desire and joy in activities with her and discover the world together, because she has probably not yet known much and is not a couch potato. A quiet rural home and environment would be desirable and ideal for her. Cats and/or small animals should not be present in her future home. Xena is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. She is located in a refuge in Andalusia/Spain. The deposit for Xena is 580 euros. Do you want to give Xena a loving home? About Xena

What life with Xena looks like

Xena is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.
