Zen

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

Zen is looking for a home with loving and active adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and attention he deserves. He is a sweet boy who can be quite independent, so can live with older secondary school children who will play with him nicely and will give him space to rest when needed. Zen likes all of the attention to himself, so is looking to be the only pet in the home, he would benefit from having friendly and polite walking buddies who will help him learn to socialise with other dogs in a polite way, he will need to be kept on a lead and muzzle at all times in public. Zen is still just a baby but has already done mat and crate training, he is an attentive guy who could engage in training in short, sweet sessions as long as a tasty treat is on offer. He would like a home with a private, secure garden for him to potter about in at his leisure off lead. Zen could settle nicely in the home as long as he has had a nice walk to tucker him out and is left enrichment to keep him busy, so could be left for up to 4 hours, any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Zen will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home with possible home trial to make sure he is settling in well so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Please note that should you be shortlisted, our rehoming process usually takes up to 7 days, and potential adopters would be required to come up to the centre to meet him within 48hrs of being shortlisted. Sweet and inquisitive lad Zen is a 1 year old Staffy cross who can be quite independent to begin with, but soon warms up to his favourite people. He likes to explore, sniffing everything in sight, he hasn’t really figured out what he is supposed to do with toys yet, he is intrigued by them and will give them a sniff and a paw, but isn’t sure what to do with them, he is waiting for a family who can show him the ropes. Once he has built a bond with you he likes to be in your business, following you around like a shadow, seeing what you are up to and if he can help. Do you need a super sidekick like Zen in your life?

About Zen

What life with Zen looks like

Zen is a young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
