Zero

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · 2 years

Zero is a friendly young terrier, full of love to share. This charming youngster has found a true home with the people who have welcomed him into their fold. With the sensitive breeds he shares a home with, Zero cannot get enough snuggles and closeness, and will wag his tail without a care for new handlers. To new people—especially men—Zero may initially be reserved. Building trust takes time. Zero still needs training, but the training and basic manners are beginning to take root at HESY. Although there are still some basic manners to work on, Zero is a very sweet boy. Once trust in people is in place, he truly shines. From Zerol, there is no lack of energy or enthusiasm, and outdoors, especially with longer walks, the young hound becomes particularly excited. The bigger the walk, the better! In Zero's hands, he can walk confidently, but he may be a bit on edge in certain environments, like when turning corners or encountering other dogs. However, he has walked with other hounds in shared runs, and outdoor activities have gone well as long as the walks have been long enough. As an energetic youngster, Zero can sometimes be a bit rambunctious, and may enthusiastically jump into a person’s arms even without ill intent. For this reason, Zero is not suitable for a home with very young children. Zero craves the right amount of activity and relaxation training. A new home should be committed to hound-style and positive training, as well as balanced home building. Zeron’s dream home would be in a more peaceful area where there wouldn’t be dogs coming to the door at every corner. Zero is sought for a new home as a single dog, either in a riivi- (rural), pari- (couple), or omakotitalo (owner) home. While alone, Zero may be a bit restless, so the apartment building with its loud hallways and staircases is not a suitable living place for him. Experience with dogs at home is seen as an advantage, and experience with similar breeds is considered a plus.

FI·Show original

Zero on ystävällinen nuori uros, jolla on paljon rakkautta jaettavana. Koirakokeneeseen kotiin, kokemus samantyyppisistä roduista katsotaan eduksi.

About Zero

What life with Zero looks like

Zero is a large adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at HESY in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs continued training, may bark when alone, requires house with yard

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. HESY handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — HESY will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with HESY early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
