Adopt Zero

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · 2 years

Zero is a friendly and active young male who still needs some socialization. Basic training and daily routines have already started with Zer, but there's still room for improvement. Zero can run nicely, but gets a bit excited by other dogs. Zero doesn't get along with other males, but has gone on walks with several different females. Outdoor activities with females have gone smoothly as long as there was enough distance. Zero is initially cautious towards men, but usually gets used to them over time. Zero is looking for a home as the only dog in a family that has prior experience with this breed. Not suitable for a family with small children. A new home is being sought for Zer in a row house, semi-detached or detached house. Zero may bark a bit when left alone, so due to noise and narrow stairways, he is not the best choice for an apartment.

About Zero

What life with Zero looks like

Zero is a large adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at HESY in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs continued training, may bark when alone, requires house with yard

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. HESY handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — HESY will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with HESY early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
