Pumba kam mit seiner Mutter und zwei Brüdern, als wir in Epirus waren, für die 8. Kastrationsaktion. Sie war gerade ein Monat alt und stillte noch. Die ganze Familie kam mit uns nach Athen. Das kleine Tier wurde abgestillt, wuchs weiter und wurde zu einem großen, schlanken und beeindruckenden Hund. Diese Farben und diese Muster auf seinem Gesicht machen ihn aus wie jemand, der einen künstlerischen Schutzmasken trägt. Er war immer sehr, sehr, sehr zahm und süßes Baby, und während wir in der Aktion waren, wurde er kastriert, er war unser Favorit, denn er war am fettesten, schüchternsten und der einzige von seinen Geschwistern, der nicht weiß war. Während seines Wachstums war es immer das Welpen, das nicht den ersten Schritt tat, aber versuchte, die anderen Welpen zu imitieren. Wenn seine Freunde mit einem Spielzeug spielten, versuchte er auch zu spielen. Wenn seine Freunde rannten, rannte er auch. Wenn seine Freunde zu Menschen kamen, um Streicheleinheiten zu bekommen, ging er ebenfalls, letzter, mit einer Unsicherheit und Zögerlichkeit, die sehr niedlich war. Wenn man ihn berührt, wird man den speziellsten Felltyp eines Hundes (in unserer Meinung!) finden. Es ist dicht, lockig, obwohl nicht lang genug, um zu kräuseln, mit hartem Haar und zu dicht. ZU dicht. Die Finger passen nicht hinein, um die Haut zu erreichen. Dieses Schafsfell in Kombination mit seinem unschuldigen Charakter macht ihn besonders. Pumba ist ein Hund, der selbstsicher sein möchte, aber nicht weiß wie. Er war übermäßig abhängig von seinem Bruder, als er ein Baby war, und später begann er sich an andere Hunde im Tierheim zu klammern. Wenn er allein ist, ist er überhaupt nicht selbstsicher, während er, wenn ein anderer Hund auf seinem Spaziergang oder in seinem Raum ist, viel offener ist, und dies ist innerhalb des Rahmens seines Charakters. Er ist der Hund, der Zeit braucht, um sich zu öffnen und Selbstvertrauen zu gewinnen, aber kooperativ sein wird, auch wenn er schüchtern ist. Wir lieben ihn sehr. Vielleicht wegen seiner unschuldigen Art, vielleicht weil er der Einzige von ihnen allen ist. VIDEO

Pumba came with his mother and two siblings when we were in Epirus for our 8th spay and neuter mission. He was only one month old at the time and was still nursing. The whole family came back to Athens with us. The little one was weaned, grew up, grew some more, and turned into a tall, lean, strikingly handsome dog. He was always an incredibly sweet baby. During the spay and neuter mission, he was everyone’s favorite because he was the chubbiest, the shyest, and the only one among his siblings who wasn’t pure white. As he grew up, he was always the puppy who wouldn’t take initiative on his own, but would try to copy the other puppies. If his friends were playing with a toy, he would try to play too. If they ran, he would run too. If they went up to people for cuddles, he would follow them, always last, with such innocence and hesitation that it made you want to hold him and tell him not to worry, not to be afraid, and that he was doing everything just right. If you touch him, you’ll feel what is, in our opinion, the most unique coat a dog can have. It’s dense, almost curly even though it’s not long enough to form curls, with coarse hair and an unbelievably thick undercoat. VERY thick. Your fingers can barely get through it to reach his skin. That sheep-like coat, combined with his innocent personality, makes him truly special. Pumba is a dog who wants to feel confident, but doesn’t quite know how yet. When he’s alone, he lacks confidence, but when another dog is around during walks or in his space, he becomes much more open and expressive. Still, this has slowly started to change. Pumba goes on walks regularly with our volunteers and has gradually become more affectionate and outgoing, even when there isn’t another dog beside him. He may still need some time to fully open up and trust, but he is cooperative despite his shyness. He has also stayed in a foster home, which helped us learn more about him. He is incredibly gentle and loving with the people who care for him, but hesitant around strangers. He’s not the kind of dog who gets excited when visitors come over, and ideally he shouldn’t be pressured into interacting with people he doesn’t trust. He bonds deeply with the person who takes care of him and spends the most time with him, and he may even remain cautious around family members he doesn’t know well. Pumba needs proper guidance and handling so his insecurities won’t stand in the way of his happiness. The ideal home for him would be a calm household without many people or small children. He could live with another dog, as long as there is balance and clear boundaries for both animals. VIDEO
