Pumba veio com sua mãe e dois irmãos quando estávamos na Epiro, para a 8ª ação de esterilização. Ela tinha apenas um mês de idade na época e ainda estava amamentando. Toda a família veio conosco para Atenas. O filhote foi desmamado, cresceu, cresceu ainda mais e tornou-se um cão alto, magro e impressionante. Essas cores e esses desenhos no seu rosto o fazem parecer que está usando uma máscara artística. Ele sempre foi um bebê muito, muito, muito doce, e enquanto estávamos em ação, foi castrado, foi nosso favorito, porque era o mais gordinho, o mais tímido e o único dos seus irmãos que não era branco. Crescendo, era sempre o filhote que não tomava a iniciativa, mas tentava imitar os outros filhotes. Se seus amigos brincavam com um brinquedo, ele também tentava brincar. Se seus amigos corriam, ele também corria. Se seus amigos iam até as pessoas para receber carícias, ele também ia, por último, com uma inocência e hesitação que era muito fofa. se tocar nele, vai encontrar o pelo mais especial disponível em um cachorro (na nossa opinião!). É denso, encaracolado, embora não longo para se encaracolar, com pelos durinhos e muito denso. MUITO denso. Os dedos não conseguem passar para dentro e alcançar a pele. Essa pelagem de ovelha combinada com seu caráter inocente o torna especial. Pumba é um cachorro que quer ser confiante, mas não sabe como. Ele era excessivamente dependente de seu irmão quando era filhote e depois começou a se agarrar a outros cães no abrigo. Quando está sozinho, ele não é confiante de jeito nenhum, enquanto que quando há outro cão em seu passeio ou no seu espaço, ele é muito mais aberto, e isso está dentro do quadro do seu caráter. Ele é o cão que precisará de tempo para se abrir e ganhar confiança, mas será cooperativo, mesmo que seja tímido. Nós o amamos muito. Pumba came with his mother and two siblings when we were in Epirus for our 8th spay and neuter mission. He was only one month old at the time and was still nursing. The whole family came back to Athens with us. The little one was weaned, grew up, grew some more, and turned into a tall, lean, strikingly handsome dog. He was always an incredibly sweet baby. During the spay and neuter mission, he was everyone’s favorite because he was the chubbiest, the shyest, and the only one among his siblings who wasn’t pure white. As he grew up, he was always the puppy who wouldn’t take initiative on his own, but would try to copy the other puppies. If his friends were playing with a toy, he would try to play too. If they ran, he would run too. If they went up to people for cuddles, he would follow them, always last, with such innocence and hesitation that it made you want to hold him and tell him not to worry, not to be afraid, and that he was doing everything just right. If you touch him, you’ll feel what is, in our opinion, the most unique coat a dog can have. It’s dense, almost curly even though it’s not long enough to form curls, with coarse hair and an unbelievably thick undercoat. VERY thick. Your fingers can barely get through it to reach his skin. That sheep-like coat, combined with his innocent personality, makes him truly special. Pumba is a dog who wants to feel confident, but doesn’t quite know how yet. When he’s alone, he lacks confidence, but when another dog is around during walks or in his space, he becomes much more open and expressive. Still, this has slowly started to change. Pumba goes on walks regularly with our volunteers and has gradually become more affectionate and outgoing, even when there isn’t another dog beside him. He may still need some time to fully open up and trust, but he is cooperative despite his shyness. He has also stayed in a foster home, which helped us learn more about him. He is incredibly gentle and loving with the people who care for him, but hesitant around strangers. He’s not the kind of dog who gets excited when visitors come over, and ideally he shouldn’t be pressured into interacting with people he doesn’t trust. He bonds deeply with the person who takes care of him and spends the most time with him, and he may even remain cautious around family members he doesn’t know well. Pumba needs proper guidance and handling so his insecurities won’t stand in the way of his happiness. The ideal home for him would be a calm household without many people or small children. He could live with another dog, as long as there is balance and clear boundaries for both animals. VIDEO
